For centuries, Southwest Native Americans have used the Mojave Yucca in many diversified ways.  From the making of soap to the treatment of a wide variety of ailments, including arthritis, rheumatism, and skin rashes, yucca's high concentration of steroidal saponins, which are cortisone-like substances, make the yucca extract such an effective medicinal aid for skin disorders.  The extract of yucca also possesses antibacterial, antifungal and super moisturizing properties. 

Yucca saponins are also very powerful water softeners that instantly permiate the shells of fleas and ticks causing their quick, safe, and effective elimination.  In 1948, the United States Department of Agriculture considered the extract of the Mojave Yucca effective in pest control.  The Mojave Yucca plant and its extract are approved for human consumption by the United States Food and Drug Administration and have a long history of safe use as a food additive for both humans and livestock.
